A Core Measure is the percentage of eligible patients that receive care represented by the measure that is determined by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Hospitals voluntarily submit data to CMS from medical records about treatment patients receive for heart attack, heart failure, pnuemonia asthma (children) or patients having surgery. Through the Hospital Compare website the public is able to view comparison rates for hospitals regarding patient experience, process of care, outcome and patient safety measures.
